<p>Established at Pope AFB in December 1947 as the 10th Reconnaissance Wing, the unit added the Tactical prefix to its designation before transferring from TAC to USAFE in July 1952 with a relocation to Toul-Rosières AB, France flying the RB-26 and RF-80. The unit moved to Spangdahlem AB in May 1953 and RAF Alconbury in August 1959. Among the reconnaissance types operated in Germany and the UK were RF-84F, RB-45, RB-57, WB/RB-66 and the RF-4C from 1965 before switching to the tactical fighter role in August 1987, with two squadrons of A-10As being transferred from RAF Bentwaters. The A-10s began returning to the USA in October 1991 as part of the Conventional Forces in Europe (CFE) Treaty, with the unit becoming the 10th Support Wing in January 1992 and subsequently the 10th Air Base Wing. The base ceased flying duties on 31 March 1995, although the facility has continued to support US forces stationed at nearby RAF Molesworth.
